Panchkula: In a major move to provide long-awaited relief to low-lying Sector 19 residents from chronic monsoon waterlogging, the Panchkula municipal corporation’s Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) has approved a ₹3.8-crore drainage infrastructure project. The proposed project involves setting up a dedicated stormwater pumping station in Ward 9 and laying a rising main pipeline to connect Sector 19 to the main drain in Industrial Area Phase-I, creating an effective mechanism for draining accumulated rainwater. For years, residents have faced severe disruption during heavy downpours, often relying on the corporation’s fire tenders and temporary pumps to drain submerged streets. The existing four-decade-old sewerage network has proven inadequate for modern urban requirements, frequently resulting in sewage backflow and street flooding during the rainy season. The new pumping station and pipeline network aim to significantly boost the area’s stormwater drainage capacity, providing a permanent solution to the recurring gridlock instead of short-term monsoon arrangements.
