Ahmedabad: Gujarat University (GU) convened the final meeting of its board of management and executive council on Sunday, with the tenure of both governing bodies set to conclude on May 5. During the meeting, several key decisions were taken, including approval of the budget for the financial year 2026–27.The university cleared a budget projecting an income of Rs 241 crore against an expenditure of ₹289.8 crore, indicating a deficit of about Rs 48.8 crore. Members unanimously approved the budget and also addressed allegations of excess payments, formally stating that no such overpayments had occurred. As the term of most members ends on May 5, the meeting marked the last for both bodies. Only three govt-appointed members will remain for another year, along with the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar. With limited members, upcoming meetings may face quorum issues until fresh appointments are made. The meeting also cleared new academic proposals, including additional postgraduate courses at colleges such as Navgujarat College, BVD College, Samarpan College in Gandhinagar and S R Mehta College. A new PG Diploma in Genetic Diagnosis in Zoology was also approved. Additionally, BK School of Management received nod to start MBA programmes in Executive and Maritime Executive streams. A proposal to hike remuneration for examination staff was turned down during the meeting.
