Dhubri: The layered history of Dhubri took centre stage on Saturday as visitors from across India joined a heritage walk through the town’s cultural and religious landmarks.Organised by the Dr Pannalal Oswal Memorial Committee, the walk included tourists from Jaipur, Nagpur, Daman and parts of Assam. Accompanied by a walk leader, participants visited British-era structures, centuries-old monuments and religious sites, some more than 350 years old.Ajit Malu, a businessman from Jaipur, said he had long heard about Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji and was pleased to visit the shrine.“It is a magnificent Sikh shrine in this eastern part of India. Our walk leader told us about the annual observance of Shaheedi Diwas, commemorating the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji,” Malu said.Ganesh Golchha from Daman described the walk as an eye-opening experience, adding, “Dhubri is a place where seven religious traditions converge—Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Sufism, Vaishnavism and Brahmoism, along with a church associated with the Armenian community. It is a place every Indian should visit.”Visitors also explored the town’s historic meteorological tower, believed to date back to around 1765.
