Dhubri: A burglary gang kingpin was apprehended by Dhubri police from Aironjongla village at the outskirts of Dhubri town on Saturday night.Dhubri police led by officer-in-charge of Dhubri Police Station (Sadar) Pritam Das on a tip-off raided a house and picked up the kingpin and recovered a cash of Rs 1,20,000 and mobile handset from him.The accused has been identified as Sofiur Rahman (35), a dreaded burglar and kingpin of the network he runs in the western Assam districts, including Barpeta, a police source said.Source also said he was wanted in many burglary incidents in western Assam districts.Das while speaking to TOI said police had information about Rahman’s entry in Dhubri district and as soon as police got inputs on his whereabouts, they rushed to the house where he was taking shelter and planning a big burglary in the area.“We are interrogating the kingpin of burglary gang and trying to get information on his network as much as possible. But one thing that his apprehension in time averted major burglary in Dhubri district,” Das said.
