Mumbai: Four pedestrians hurt in hit-and-run in Powai, police detain teenager

Mumbai: Powai police detained a 19-year-old from Kharghar for rash and negligent driving after a hit-and-run near Mahatma Phule Nagar on Sunday evening. Police said the driver was speeding towards the Eastern Express Highway.Police said the driver first hit a motorcycle and then struck four pedestrians—Manisha Sawant (45), Natha Sopan Pargaonkar (40), Ammachar Pande (40) and Dhanush Pande (13) and fled without providing medical assistance. Sawant was admitted to Sion Hospital. Police said the accident occurred after Sawant suddenly came in front of the car, following which the vehicle hit her. No fatalities were reported so far. Police said the driver later approached the traffic police near Vikhroli Parksite and subsequently surrendered at the Powai police station. Police have registered an FIR. Videos of the injured persons went viral on social media.
