Cong renews call for CEC’s removal

Guwahati: Assam Congress president and MP Gaurav Gogoi on Friday demanded the removal of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from his post.Gogoi alleged that Kumar was acting out of loyalty to PM Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah rather than the Constitution. He said Kumar had no right to remain in office if he placed the PM and home minister above the Constitution and the people.Gogoi said the INDIA bloc planned to hold a mock Parliament on Oct 28, although the details were yet to be finalised. He said the bloc’s ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ rallies were continuing across the country. He said Congress resumed political activities after a brief pause during Navratri, Dussehra and Durga Puja, and claimed the campaign was receiving public support.Reacting to Modi’s repeated criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Gogoi alleged that Prime Minister was focused on the leader of the opposition instead of addressing public concerns, including those affecting the middle class, students, Manipur and drought-hit regions.Gogoi also questioned whether govt could remain in power until 2029. He accused BJP of lacking vision and alleged that its politics centred on manipulating votes and elections.
