Kolkata: The second phase of Bengal assembly polls witnessed 92.9% turnout, with Bhangar in South 24 Parganas recording the highest at 97.74%. With 93.19% turnout in the first phase, Bengal clocked about 93% turnout over the two phases of polling on April 23 and April 29. According to EC’s data on Sunday, Minakhan recorded 97.4% voters’ turnout, while Haroa, Canning East, and Deganga are among the top five assembly constituencies in voter participation. Canning East, Haroa, and Deganga recorded turnouts of 97.7%, 97.34%, and 96.92%, respectively. Bhowanipore recorded 86.71% polling, EC data shows. In Kolkata North, Entally recorded 92.01% voters’ turnout, the maximum, while Chowringhee clocked 86.56%. Meanwhile, the turnout in the 15 booths that went for a repoll on Saturday in Magrahat West and Diamond Harbour Assembly constituencies is over 90%. However, the EC didn’t disclose average polling data for those poll stations. According to EC’s data on Sunday, the 11 booths of Magrahat West, where repolling was conducted on Saturday, recorded over 90% voting. For four polling booths in Diamond Harbour, Saturday’s polling percentage was also more than 90%. “Among the 15 polling stations, the highest voters’ turnout was recorded at polling station 230 of Magrahat West, where more than 95% of electors cast their franchise. However, the EC has not published overall percentage of polling on Saturday, nor the breakup of turnouts for Magrahat West and Diamond Harbour separately,” a senior official said on Sunday. On April 29, Magrahat West and Diamond Harbour assembly constituencies recorded 94.21% and 94.19% voters’ turnout, respectively.
