Blue glow in Maharashtra's Arnala sea sparks speculation of bioluminescence
Residents and visitors near Arnala beach in Virar have observed a mysterious blue glow in the sea.

VIRAR: A mysterious blue glow resembling fireflies has been spotted in the sea off Arnala in Virar, leaving residents and visitors amazed. The sight of the water glowing in the dark surprised many, while several fishermen and locals ventured into the sea to enjoy a swim. The unusual phenomenon is suspected to be caused by bioluminescence, a natural process in which certain marine microorganisms emit light. Some types of microscopic plankton produce a bluish glow when disturbed by water movement, making waves and ripples appear to sparkle in the dark. However, the exact cause of the glow observed off Arnala beach has not yet been scientifically established. There is no official confirmation that the phenomenon is a result of bioluminescence, and further verification is needed to determine whether another factor could be responsible.
