Rs 13 lakh theft in Ahmedabad: 4 suitcases stolen from parked luxury bus

Ahmedabad: Four suitcases containing gold jewellery and other items — cumulatively worth over Rs 13 lakh — were stolen from a luxury bus parked at Naroda Patiya, a complaint filed with Naroda police on Saturday stated.The complainant, Naresh Chandanani, 50, told police that he was travelling with his family to attend a wedding in Junagadh on April 28. He, along with his wife Rajni and two daughters, reached Naroda Patiya around 8.30pm after collecting their luggage from his brother’s residence. The family was to travel in a bus booked for the wedding. The complainant said he placed four suitcases in the luggage compartment of the bus, which was parked on a public road near a temple. After boarding the bus, he returned within 10 minutes to take out some items but found that all four suitcases were missing. He informed the driver and conductor, and a search was conducted in the area. The luggage could not be traced. Police said the stolen items included a gold mangalsutra weighing around 5.5 tolas, valued at about Rs 7.5 lakh, two gold bangles weighing around 3.5 tolas worth about Rs 5 lakh, and clothes and other items estimated to be worth Rs 60,000. The complainant proceeded to Junagadh for the wedding and later approached the police after returning. Police said the theft occurred between 8.30pm and 8.40pm when the bus was parked and the rear side was accessible. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined.
