New Delhi: The final stretch of DND-Jaitpur-Faridabad-Palwal-Sohna expressway corridor has been completed, South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said Monday. During trials, travel time from Sarai Kale Khan to Sohna and Palwal was cut to 40-45 minutes against the usual three hours during peak traffic, he added.Sources indicated PM Modi may inaugurate the corridor soon this year.Bidhuri, along with Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari, recently inspected the stretch, when load testing and other technical evaluations were underway by NHAI.Once operational, the corridor is expected to provide faster connectivity between Delhi and key destinations in Haryana, including Faridabad, Sohna and Palwal. The route runs from Sarai Kale Khan through Jaitpur and Meethapur to Faridabad, with onward connectivity to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway network. The total length of the section of DND–Faridabad–Sohna Access Controlled Highway (NH-148A) is 59km while the stretch of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway between DND Flyway and Jaitpur is 9km. The DND-Jaitpur section provides a direct connection from Delhi to the expressway network while the adjoining sections connect with Faridabad and KMP Expressway. The project is expected to offer an alternative to existing routes used by commuters travelling between Delhi and Faridabad and beyond. “This would be major relief for South Delhi constituency as the new corridor would help ease congestion at Ashram Chowk, Kalindi Kunj and along Mathura Road, besides reducing travel time and fuel consumption,” Bidhuri said, adding the completion of the final stretch would provide a major boost to commuters travelling towards southern Haryana.Traffic bound for Faridabad, Ballabhgarh and Sohna is expected to shift to the expressway from the congested Ring Road and Mathura Road routes. According to Bidhuri, the new stretch would cut travel time from DND Flyway to Faridabad to about 20 minutes from the current 30 minutes needed to cover the Ashram-Badarpur border section. The expressway corridor is fully connected but operates under two different statuses. The newly-opened 9km Delhi section (DND Flyway to Jaitpur) is strictly on a trial basis, meaning it is currently toll-free with a cautious speed limit of 40kmph while NHAI monitors traffic. The 50km Haryana section (Jaitpur to Sohna/KMP) has moved past the trial phase and is fully operational with standard highway rules and active tolling.
