ED questions Ludhiana police chief for over 4 hours in ‘fake’ video report case

Chandigarh: Ludhiana Police commissioner Swapan Sharma was questioned by Enforcement Directorate (ED) for over four hours at its Chandigarh office on Monday in connection with a case relating to the alleged fabrication of forensic and cyber analysis reports concerning a controversial video allegedly linked to Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann. The 2009-batch IPS officer appeared before the agency around noon and left after the questioning without speaking to the media outside. He did not respond to phone calls, and neither did ED officially give out any details. The questioning stems from an FIR registered by Gurgaon police on June 23 following a complaint by Sirsa-based forensic and cyber expert Jaspreet Singh, who alleged that two senior Punjab Police officers pressured him to arrange forensic reports supporting claims that the video was fake, digitally altered or generated using AI.According to the Gurgaon police investigation, Rs 10 lakh was allegedly handed to Singh in connection with the preparation of the disputed reports. Police subsequently arrested two suspects, Arun Mahendru and Ankit, for their alleged role in preparing the reports. The allegations remain subject to investigation.Sharma had earlier said that he and his team had visited Gurgaon in connection with a cyber fraud investigation involving people who had allegedly lost their savings. According to him, the team had documentation relating to the visit.Mann has said he is not the person depicted in the clip and maintained that it was fabricated using AI.
