Loharu canal tail-end farmers get water relief after Haryana minister steps in
Haryana minister Shruti Choudhry

Chandigarh: Prompt intervention by Haryana minister Shruti Choudhry has resolved severe irrigation shortages along the Loharu Canal, successfully restoring water flow to its tail end for affected farmers. The action follows protests and representations led by the Bharatiya Kisan Union on behalf of farmers in Kushalpura and surrounding villages, who were struggling with inadequate supply to irrigate their fields.Taking immediate cognisance of the farmers’ grievances, minister Choudhry directed senior department officials to rectify supply bottlenecks, monitor canal flow, and strictly curb upstream water theft. Following her orders, officials restored full supply to the tail end and granted farmers an additional two-and-a-half days of canal water to compensate for previous disruptions.“Providing adequate irrigation water to every farmer is a top priority for the state govt,” said Choudhri. The minister also instructed officials to maintain continuous field monitoring and enforce a time-bound mechanism to resolve all future irrigation complaints.
