Dibrugarh: Three months after floods ravaged Sivasagar, the district has immersed itself in Durga Puja festivities, determined to overcome the devastation.Prominent puja committees are drawing crowds with innovative themes, artistic pandals and eco-friendly decorations, reflecting residents’ resilience and commitment to preserving cultural traditions.The Barowari Durga Puja at KPM Chariali, being organised for the 93rd year, is among this year’s major attractions. Its pandal depicts the nine forms, or Nava Rup, of Goddess Durga, combining spiritual significance with artistic creativity.An organiser said the committee wanted to preserve the festival’s traditional fervour despite the hardships caused by the floods.“Durga Puja is an integral part of our cultural life. Despite the devastation, we wanted to celebrate the festival with devotion and enthusiasm and bring people together,” the organiser said.The Sri Sri Naba Yubak Durga Puja at Thana Road, in its 66th year, has opted for an eco-friendly pandal made from around 400 bamboo baskets.“Our aim is to combine creativity with environmental responsibility. We hope the pandal will inspire people to explore sustainable materials for decorations,” an organiser said.The Rangpur Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee has chosen the floods as its theme. The concept reflects the destruction and hardship faced by residents while conveying resilience and solidarity.Committee member Ranjan Borthakur said the theme was intended to remind visitors of the district’s difficult days and pay tribute to those affected.“The floods caused widespread suffering, but the determination of our people remains strong. Through this theme, we want to highlight their struggles and the hope of rebuilding their lives,” he said.
