AHMEDABAD: A 40-year-old homemaker living in an apartment complex in Anandnagar has lodged a police complaint alleging that she was molested inside the lift by a resident. According to the complaint filed on Saturday, the woman lives in the complex with her husband and three daughters.She alleged that the accused, who lives in a second-floor flat in the same building, first contacted her a few months ago and called her on March 21, introducing himself as a resident of the apartment block. In her complaint, the woman said the man later began calling her repeatedly and sending WhatsApp messages. She stated she felt he was speaking too freely and told him not to call or message her. She alleged that, around 8am about 15 days ago, she was going downstairs in the lift when it stopped on the second floor and the accused entered. The woman alleged that the man touched her chest and private parts and made advances.
Woman alleges assault and threat by resident
The complainant further alleged that the accused threatened her, saying he would tell others that they had been talking and messaging each other if she informed her husband or anyone else about it. She said she initially remained silent out of fear. The woman also alleged that the harassment continued. She said she informed the wife of the accused, but her complaint was ignored. She later went to her parents, who live in a village in Banaskantha, informed her younger brother, and then approached police. Police have registered a case against the accused under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to sexual harassment and criminal intimidation.
