Chandigarh: To stop recurring sewage overflow into Sukhna Choe, the Chandigarh municipal corporation’s public health wing has awarded a Rs 30-lakh tender to desilt and replace a damaged 150-metre pipeline section in Industrial Area, Phase-I.The affected stretch, located near the SDM East office and running along the slaughterhouse, suffered heavy blockages from the now-demolished Sanjay Colony and Colony No. 4. Engineers determined that clearing the severe blockages was impossible, making total replacement necessary.While all other sewage discharge points into the Choe have been plugged, MC officials confirmed that additional stretches may require strengthening or replacement soon for a permanent solution.The project comes amid strict oversight by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Stopping sewage flow into city choes remains a key focus of NGT reviews, with the matter recently discussed in detail at a meeting chaired by the UT chief secretary. MC submits regular progress reports on these efforts to the UT administration.
