Gurgaon: MCG has set an Oct 25 deadline to remove all 31 ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants operating within its limits, as the civic body steps up measures to curb air pollution.MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya Thursday directed the concerned joint commissioners to ensure that no RMC plant remains within the municipal limits after the deadline. Dahiya instructed officials to ensure that pollution-control measures are implemented on the ground rather than remaining confined to official records. The process of issuing notices to the plants and completing other formalities has begun, officials said.RMC plants are facilities where cement, sand, aggregates, water and other materials are mixed in precise proportions to produce concrete, which is then taken to construction sites for use.During the meeting, the commissioner reviewed action being taken against all RMC plants located within the municipal limits. He directed the concerned joint commissioners to complete the removal of relevant plants by Oct 25. He said, “We are focusing on measures such as action against RMC plants, preventing biomass burning, dust control at construction sites, deep cleaning of roads and timely waste collection to control air pollution. These directives aim to address the city’s major sources of pollution and strengthen efforts to ensure a cleaner environment for residents.”Officials have been asked to intensify surveillance in their respective areas and ensure the timely lifting of horticultural waste to prevent its burning. Dust control at construction sites is another priority, said officials. The commissioner directed officials to ensure regular water sprinkling at construction sites and take steps to prevent dust from spreading to surrounding areas.
