Silchar: Police seized 2.3 lakh Yaba tablets valued at around Rs 57.5 crore from a truck in Assam’s Cachar district on Thursday and detained two persons.Acting on intelligence, an anti-narcotics team intercepted the truck at Five Mile under Udharbond police station. A search led to the recovery of 2,30,000 tablets weighing 24.589 kg from a specially designed concealed chamber. The detained persons were identified as Sachin Tomar (28) of Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh and Rohit Yadav (21) of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.Police said the truck was travelling from neighbouring Manipur. Investigators are trying to establish the source and intended destination of the contraband. The seizure has raised suspicions of an organised interstate drug-trafficking network using commercial vehicles to transport narcotics through Assam. Police are examining whether the detainees have links with a larger syndicate operating across the northeast and elsewhere.Investigators are also trying to identify others involved and trace the supply chain, including the procurement and distribution of the tablets.Police said further investigation was underway and legal action was being initiated.
