NEW DELHI: Heavy security arrangements will be in place in and around Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed protest on Friday, with several companies of paramilitary forces stationed in the national capital, police sources said on Thursday. The protest, titled “Lehra Do Tiranga”, has been called by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke at Central Park in Connaught Place at 5pm on October 16, news agency PTI reported.Police personnel will be deployed at strategic locations, barricades erected and the movement of protesters and commuters regulated to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident.A senior police officer said Connaught Place is not a designated protest site.Jantar Mantar, too, has been denotified as a designated protest site, the officer said, adding that demonstrations can be held at Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground or CBD Ground after obtaining the requisite permission. The proposed demonstration follows the arrest of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka after they reached Jantar Mantar. They were subsequently remanded to five days of judicial custody by a special executive magistrate, PTI reported.Earlier, Dipke said waving the national flag was not a crime and called for a flag march at Connaught Place on October 16.In a statement, Dipke urged citizens to join the demonstration, asserting that waving the national flag was a democratic right. The party has also called for parallel Tiranga marches in other cities at 5pm on Friday. The proposed protest comes amid a dispute over the party’s attempts to organise demonstrations in Delhi.(With agency inputs)
