Jaipur: Two days after former BJP MLA Atar Singh Bhadana was killed in a mob attack over a mining dispute in Bharatpur, Rajasthan Police has directed all district superintendents of police (SPs) to identify pending land and mining disputes that could trigger violence and take preventive action before they escalate.Speaking to TOI, DGP Rajeev Kumar Sharma said disputes likely to threaten law and order would be prioritised, with lists prepared and regularly monitored. The cases will be reviewed periodically at police station, circle and district levels to ensure that potentially volatile disputes do not remain unattended.Sharma also directed police officers to coordinate with the revenue and forest departments and other concerned agencies to ensure timely intervention. Officials were asked to use counselling, preventive measures and other lawful means to resolve disputes before they turn violent. The directions followed a review on Wednesday meeting in which Sharma stressed the need for prompt action when incidents such as the Bharatpur killing occur. Police officers were told to inform senior officers without delay, act swiftly based on verified facts and share timely, information through the press and social media. The DGP also directed police to clear long-pending cases. Cases pending for more than a year will be reviewed by the district SP concerned, while those pending for over three years will be examined by the range inspector general. Officers were asked to prepare time-bound plans to dispose of old cases and clear pending charge sheets and final reports, while identifying and removing obstacles delaying investigations.Sharma also called for the use of body cameras during vehicle checks and effective action against drunk driving, suspicious vehicles and speeding. He stressed that police response time after receiving information about a crime must be reduced, with officers reaching the spot promptly and taking appropriate action.
