3 held for attacking locals in Guwahati

Guwahati: Three persons have been arrested in the city for allegedly assaulting local residents, police said on Monday, following reports of multiple incidents over the past few days.Conincidentally, all three arrested are Hindi-speaking people.Describing the first incident, in which two women were harassed late at night by Chandan Kumar Mandal from Bihar, joint commissioner of police (JCP) Ankur Jain said, “The accused tried to steal the earring of the younger sister. Immediately the victim called the police helpline and the police left for the location. Meanwhile, when the complainant asked for help from the people nearby, they did not help her and instead asked her to leave the place. The police, meanwhile, got there, identified the accused and arrested him.”Police said the incident occurred on Saturday and a case was registered under sections 307, 62, 126 (2), 351 (2), and 3 (5) of the BNS Act.Jain said the second incident took place on Friday in Fancy Bazar after a four-wheeler collided with a scooter and the situation escalated into a fight. “Kriti Gupta her brother Pratik Kumar Gupta, who were on the scooter, had an accident and they attacked the vehicle driver, Mominul Islam, and Navanita Das. We have registered a case in Panbazar PS and both of them have been arrested,” he said.The third incident occurred at a petrol pump in Paltan Bazar, where a group of employees, all from Bihar, allegedly attacked a man for filling petrol on his two-wheeler on his own as he couldn’t find anyone there. Police have identified the attackers and asked them to appear before Paltan Bazar PS.
