Kolkata: The newly constituted committee of the West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) has started hearing complaints from patients. On Tuesday, the commission took up seven cases. The new govt in the state had dissolved the previous committee. “We have started hearing cases with seven complaints in the presence of all members of the committee,” said WBCERC chairman Justice (retd) Biswajit Basu. The new panel is also attempting to popularise hearing of cases online to make it convenient for complainants. “We have decided to move towards online hearing and also digitising records. This transition will take some time,” Basu said.A team from WBCERC recently toured private health facilities in North Bengal. Sources said the team advised plugging of loopholes and said it will follow up to check if those recommendations have been implemented.“There are shortcomings in patient care services in some facilities. If we can address the core issues, the complaints against clinical establishments will automatically come down,” added Basu.
