Guwahati: The IMD has forecast heavy rain in parts of Assam over the next two days, including on the day of counting of votes on Monday.Despite the weather warning, polling officials said they are prepared to carry out the counting process. In Guwahati, the EVMs are stored at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre and counting will take place indoors. Officials said artificial floods cannot inundate the counting halls, but they are on alert since flooding on the paths to the counting halls is also undesirable.“The counting for all five constituencies in greater Guwahati will take place in three big halls inside the trade centre. Once the officials go inside the halls, there should not be any problems. There are no temporary tents,” a senior official of the district administration said. The strong rooms for these five seats are adjacent to the counting halls. The biggest concern over urban floods has been in Guwahati, where several lives have been lost over the years.Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD has issued a warning that thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds, reaching up to 30-40 kmph, are likely to occur at isolated places in Assam on Sunday, as well as on the counting day.For both days, the Met office on Saturday warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Assam. On Sunday, the forecast for Guwahati is for a generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures are most likely to be 28°C and 21°C, respectively.
