Diwali clean-up plan faces questions over ward priorities
Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s ward-wise cleaning schedule ahead of Diwali has come under scrutiny

Jaipur: Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s ward-wise cleaning schedule ahead of Diwali has come under scrutiny, with Congress councillors alleging that BJP wards have been given priority while several Congress-held wards have been scheduled for cleaning in late Nov and Dec. The councillors have also raised concerns over poor sanitation in their areas and alleged that sanitation officials are not responding to their calls.According to the corporation’s Swachhta Utsav 2026 roster, the cleaning drive is scheduled to run from Oct 8 to Dec across different zones. In Kishanpole zone, cleaning in wards 105 and 110 has been scheduled for Oct 30 and Nov 2, respectively. Meanwhile, wards 119, 137, 143 and 147 are scheduled to be covered on Nov 27, Dec 2, Dec 4 and Dec 8, respectively. In Adarsh Nagar zone, cleaning in wards 118, 124, 127, 129 and 132 is scheduled between late Oct and mid-Nov, while ward 103 is listed for Dec 2.Around 10 Congress councillors have also complained that the chief sanitation inspectors (CSIs) and sanitation inspectors assigned to their wards do not answer their phone calls, leaving local cleanliness issues unresolved. They have alleged that sanitation arrangements in their areas remain inadequate despite repeated attempts to contact the officials concerned. The councillors also raised these grievances with JMC commissioner Om Kasera. According to the councillors, the commissioner did not hear them out and asked them to leave his chamber. Kasera, however, offered a different account, saying he had heard their concerns and assured them that the issues would be addressed soon.Separately, Ward 84 councillor Bharat Meghwal called for a review of the cleaning roster and demanded that the criteria used to decide the dates be made public, arguing that all wards should receive equal attention ahead of Diwali.Rejecting allegations of political bias in the schedule, Kasera said, “There is no priority given to BJP or Congress. Our concern is keeping the city clean. We have covered all wards. This could be a coincidence.”With markets and residential areas requiring additional attention during the festive season, the councillors have questioned both the scheduling of the cleaning drive and the response of sanitation staff to their complaints. The municipal administration maintains that all wards have been included in the roster and that the concerns raised by councillors will be addressed.
