Guwahati: Maligaon Kalibari Parichalana Samitee is marking its 76th year with a biodiversity-themed Durga Puja pandal that combines artificial structures and natural elements. The pandal is designed to represent an ecosystem, featuring elements from the natural world and man-made installations. The organisers said the theme aims to highlight nature’s importance and encourage visitors to preserve their connection with it.“The pandal showcases a wide range of elements from the natural world, from microscopic organisms to animals, with a mix of natural and artificial plants bringing the ecosystem to life. Sound effects have also been incorporated to make the experience more immersive and engaging, especially for children. The overall cost of the structure is approximately Rs 20 lakh,” said Subhajit Nath, general secretary of the committee. The pandal has been built with plaster of Paris and wood, with natural plants incorporated into the design. Skilled workers from Dhubri were brought in to construct it.The committee has also planned recitations, dance, singing and musical performances during the puja, followed by cultural programmes in the evening, Nath said.Despite budget constraints, the organisers drew inspiration from a recent natural calamity while developing the concept. The puja is being funded through contributions, with about 70% coming from committee members, 20% from collections within the colony and the remaining 10% from advertisements.
