Hyderabad: Election Commission on Tuesday informed Telangana high court that grievances raised by city-based social activist SQ Masood and his brother Syed Waheeduddin over the electoral roll have either been addressed or are being processed. The EC counsel made the submission before a bench of Acting Chief Justice P Sam Koshy and Justice Narsing Rao Nandikonda while responding to a petition filed by the duo over automated notices generated through ECINet and ERONet applications and data mismatches in the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Senior counsel Avinash Desai, appearing for the commission, said Masood had complained that his name was missing from the draft roll and had submitted a representation. A detailed reply was sent to him, though it was not part of the present writ petition and might have been received late, he submitted.Desai said Masood’s name was not in the draft roll because it was not in the earlier roll either. His name, like others, would be published in the final list if his application was accepted, or a decision would be taken on his application, he added. On Waheeduddin, Desai said his name was already in the draft list, though there was a mismatch in his father’s name. Since his name was in the list, there was no violation of any right as alleged by the petitioners, he added.Petitioners’ counsel L Ravi Chander informed the bench that they had already filed a PIL on a similar issue, but it had not yet been numbered. The bench observed that if the petitioners’ grievances have been addressed, the writ petition could be disposed of, while the PIL could be heard separately. The case was posted for Thursday, Oct 15, for the petitioners’ counsel to verify Election Commission’s reply.
