Kolkata/Kalyani: CM Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday called for caution against attempts by “charpokas” (bedbugs) and “arsolas” (cockroaches) to “weaken the nation” and exhorted people to support PM Narendra Modi, who has been trying to ensure the country’s unity and security.Speaking at the inauguration of Gandhi Palli Vivekananda Sporting Club Durga Puja in Bongaon, Adhikari stressed the need to strengthen the bond between religion, culture and tradition. The CM also warned people to stay alert against “anti-national” activities taking place across the country.“Many bedbugs and cockroaches within the country are trying to weaken it… some Dimagi Naxals are raising anti-national slogans, demanding freedom for Kashmir. People should also stay alert against them. Everyone should come together and strengthen the hands of PM Modi,” he said.Stern measures were being taken to stop border infiltration, the CM said, questioning the role of previous govts over Citizenship Amendment Act and border security. “The previous govts did not give CAA, SC certificates to Hindu people who came to our state for shelter. They also failed to give enough importance to stop illegal infiltration,” he said. The CM also inaugurated two pujas at Kalyani and Ranaghat. He announced a Campa Cola project in Haringhata and said he would attend its foundation-stone-laying ceremony on Oct 28. Adhikari inspected the proposed greenfield airport site in Kalyani from a helicopter, accompanied by the Nadia DM and Ranaghat police chief. The CM stressed the need to expand religious tourism in Nadia and preserve the district’s historical heritage. He also spoke of a proposed pilgrimage circuit linking Mayapur-Nabadwip with Tarapith, Tarakeswar, Kalighat and Dakshineswar.Reiterating that “anti-national cockroaches and bedbugs roaming around should be cleared out”, Adhikari asked for the smooth conduct of Jagaddhatri Puja in Krishnanagar and Raas festival in Santipur. At the three places, Adhikari mentioned that 12,400 new Durga Puja permissions have been granted this year, taking the total number of pujas across the state to 57,400, compared with 45,000 last year.
