NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Sunday reacted to the release of its founder Abhijeet Dipke and leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das from detention, saying Delhi Police had been forced to release them.“FINALLY DELHI POLICE IS FORCED TO RELEASE ABHIJEET DIPKE, ASHUTOSH RANKA AND SAURAV DAS. Cockroaches never die,” the party said in a post on X.An executive magistrate in New Delhi ordered the release of the three CJP leaders on Sunday. They had been placed under preventive detention by Delhi Police ahead of the party’s proposed ‘Jantar Mantar 2.0’ protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The three leaders were detained from inside an aircraft after their flight from Mumbai landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday. The action came after Delhi Police denied permission for the planned demonstration, citing law-and-order concerns, public safety and possible inconvenience to residents. The party had planned to demand the resignation of Kumar and the scrapping of the SIR exercise. The detention had triggered criticism from CJP, which questioned the whereabouts of its leaders and sought their release. The party had also expressed concern over Dipke’s access to his family after his grandmother’s death, with the family preparing for her last rites on Sunday.Earlier, Delhi Police said information about his grandmother’s death had been conveyed to Dipke and that assistance had been offered to facilitate his travel to his hometown for the funeral. The detention of the three leaders came amid a wider police crackdown ahead of the proposed protest, during which more than 7,000 people were detained, including opposition leaders, activists, student leaders and journalists.Police had said due legal process would be followed in the case of the three CJP leaders.(With agency inputs)
