Infant stolen from Noida hospital on promise of govt aide, rescued from Delhi after 10-hour search

Noida: A three-day-old girl allegedly stolen from a govt hospital in Sector 110 on Friday was recovered from Delhi after a 10-hour search. Phase 2 police are questioning the woman who allegedly took the infant.Gautam Nandan, a cab driver from Bhangel, and his wife Sapna had their first child on Oct 6 after a C-section. The family was preparing to leave the hospital on Friday when, around 8 am, the couple went to consult a doctor and left the baby with Sapna’s mother Raksha Devi.During this time, an unidentified woman allegedly approached the family and offered govt assistance of Rs 4,000 for the birth of a girl. The family said she told them some paperwork was required and that the baby would have to accompany her. Trusting her, they allowed her to hold the newborn. She allegedly used the opportunity to leave with the child. The family began searching and raised an alarm when the baby could not be found.Police formed two teams to trace the infant while a third examined CCTV footage from the hospital and surrounding areas. Preliminary footage showed a woman leaving with the baby on a motorcycle with a man, police said. The search led them to Delhi, where the woman and the baby were traced.Sapna said the suspect had won the family’s trust by offering to help them access govt benefits. The woman allegedly said she had paid money to take the baby, which the family denied.Police said they were questioning the woman to establish the circumstances of the incident. I dentity and role of the man on the motorcycle are being investigated.Under Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Scheme, UP govt provides Rs 5,000 on the birth of a girl child to families with income below Rs 3 lakh. Under the scheme, the child is eligible to receive Rs 20,000 in five instalments till she has passed Class 10/12 and enrolled in at least two-year diploma course or graduate degree.
