Chandigarh: Gurugram Rapid Metro recorded an 11.62% rise in ridership, carrying 88.81 lakh passengers between April and Aug, up from 79.57 lakh during the same period last year. The figures were presented Thursday at the 66th Board Meeting of Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC), chaired by chief secretary Anurag Rastogi.HMRTC’s operational revenue rose 11.64% to Rs 18.60 crore, supported by a 64.34% surge in non-fare revenue. Station space rentals climbed to Rs 3.50 crore, while ad-rights e-auctions generated Rs 23.14 crore.Managing director Ajay Kumar highlighted key regional transit developments. The proposed 136.30-km Delhi-Panipat-Karnal Namo Bharat corridor, estimated at Rs 33,051.15 crore, will feature 17 stations. Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini has also approved the final feasibility report for the Ballabhgarh-Palwal Metro extension, which has been submitted to the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs.Additionally, route alignment for the Gurugram-Faridabad-Noida-Greater Noida corridor is finalised, while the 35.25-km, 28-station elevated metro corridor from Gurugram Sector-56 to Panchgaon is nearing final approvals.
