Jalandhar: Police here on Thursday claimed that it had arrested two operatives of banned outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) for allegedly writing pro-Khalistan and anti-BJP graffiti on the outer wall of Red Cross Bhawan on Sept 29, a day before Union home minister Amit Shah’s rally in the city.Commissioner of police Satinder Singh said Sukhpreet Singh and Rajdeep Singh, both residents of Nihaluwal village in Jalandhar district, had criminal histories, with cases under the Arms Act and NDPS Act registered against them.The graffiti included slogans targeting the BJP’s “Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra”, including “Nasha Wholesalers Yatra” and “BJP Bhajao, Naujawani Bachao”. SFJ chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun had released footage of the graffiti.Police registered a case under Sections 147, 152, 196 and 61(2) of the BNS and Section 66F of the IT Act.The commissioner said police zeroed in on the two suspects during the investigation and arrested them. During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed that they had also vandalised a statue of B R Ambedkar at Barian Kalan village near Chabbewal in Hoshiarpur on the intervening night of Sept 14 and 15.The police are investigating the alleged links and role of the accused in both incidents.
