Canacona: Demolition of the old fish market at Chaudi in the Canacona Municipality area began on Tuesday to make way for a new modern market. The development has brought relief to fisherwomen, who have been selling fish in the open under the sun due to the dilapidated condition of the existing market.Municipal engineer Nitin Kotharkar said the municipal administration would begin the process of temporarily shifting the fish sellers to a suitable location. He said necessary temporary facilities would also be provided for the vendors at the weekly market on Saturdays.Kotharkar, who took charge as the municipality’s engineer last week, visited the market and assessed the problems faced by traders and vendors. Following the visit, action was initiated to address their concerns.Meanwhile, former CMC chairperson Ramakant Naik Gaonkar interacted with the women vendors and heard their concerns.
