Kolkata: Traffic restrictions will be flexible for autos during Durga Puja this year, said police. Decisions to shut auto routes, just like shutting roads or diverting the vehicles, will be taken based on the ground conditions rather than the usual declared time of such shutdown or diversions.Cops said the decision comes after deputation from several corners of the society. In addition, popular routes like Kasba-Ballygunge and Tollygunge-Haridevpur have been allotted alternate routes. There will be three stretches where autos will be strictly regulated, shutting operations between 2-3 pm from Chaturthi. “The first is the area around Kasba-Ballygunge. The second is the entire stretch between Triangular Park and New Alipore. The third is the stretch lying between Ultadanga-Hatibagan,” said a traffic cop.According to police directives, auto movement will be barred along critical north and central stretches including Raja Dinendra Street, Maniktala Main Road, Ultadanga Main Road, Beadon Street, and Vivekananda Road. Autos on routes connecting Ultadanga to Lake Town, Baguihati, and the airport via Durgapur Bridge will also face strict curbs, alongside restrictions on Canal Circular Road and Mahatma Gandhi Road.In south Kolkata, curbs on autos will extend across Rash Behari Avenue, Sarat Bose Road, Hazra Road, Prince Anwar Shah Road, and Diamond Harbour Road from 3:00 PM on all Puja days. Autos on the Garia-Golpark route will be halted north of Sukanta Setu, with temporary termination permitted near 8B Bus Stand if needed.Traffic cops confirmed that services along the Rash Behari Connector will be diverted from Ruby Island through Siemens, Rajdanga Main Road, and B B Chatterjee Road. Meanwhile, auto stands near Sakher Bazar and Chowrasta will temporarily shift to Santosh Roy Road to maintain crowd control and smooth traffic flow.
