Gorakhpur: Following the controversy arising out of violence that took place during a news conference of Samajwadi Party in Gorakhpur, more than 2,000 people from the Kshatriya community gathered in Bansgaon on Tuesday in support of expelled SP member Anshuman Singh.Participants marched through the town, raised slogans and submitted a memorandum to the SDM, addressed to chief minister Yogi Adityanath, demanding a fair probe into the incident. They also sought withdrawal of cases against Singh if allegations against him were found baseless.The gathering came a day after a Kshatriya Mahapanchayat in Bansgaon, where community members backed Singh and criticised remarks attributed to Nishad Party chief Sanjay Nishad. Speakers said the matter would be taken before chief minister and senior police officials if required.An altercation took place during an SP news conference in Gorakhpur on Oct 4 over seating arrangements. It led to a confrontation between former SP district president Nagina Prasad Sahani and Kamlesh Singh, son of Anshuman Singh. A video of the incident showed Kamlesh slapping Sahani, triggering political outrage.Following the episode, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav expelled Anshuman Singh from the party and dissolved the party’s district and metropolitan units in Gorakhpur. Police registered an FIR against Anshuman Singh, Kamlesh Singh and others.
