Kolkata: CM Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday warned against “bedbugs crawling all around”, calling for Hindu unity against “anti-national, hidden and disruptive forces conspiring against the State”.At a Vishwa Hindu Parishad event in Kolkata to commemorate Ashok Singhal’s birth centenary, Adhikari said: “Don’t take these bedbugs lightly. They didn’t come out on the streets when Bitan Adhikari and Samir Guha were killed in the Pahalgam terrorist attack. They protested when Operation Sindoor destroyed Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar’s outfit in Pakistan. They demanded answers from Narendra Modi-ji when water flow from the Ravi river was halted.”Adhikari’s comments came on the back of Cockroach Janta Party’s protests at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Oct 2, and Left, AAP and Congress leading separate agitations against CEC Gyanesh Kumar and alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. The CM cited examples of agitations at Jadavpur University, where, he said, some “anti-nationals were raising azadi slogans” and “a section of nationalist students protested against it”. “These forces have to be uprooted completely. We have to unite against such forces operating within the country,” he added.Adhikari said: “We will not allow the word ‘gerua’ (saffron) and its inherent significance in society to be attacked. We will implement UCC very soon. Give me six months and we will put an end to love jihad, land jihad and forcible conversions through legislation. Liquor consumption will be prohibited on Ashtami this year.”The CM stressed that govt won’t allow “any attack on Indian culture, Sanatani traditions, temples, monasteries or the heritage that spiritual icons Vivekananda and Mahaprabhu Sri Chaitanya have propounded”.Taking a dig at the previous Trinamool govt for trying to divide people over religion, language and caste, Adhikari said: “They created different boards in the Hills, bifurcated Matuas and pitched Kudmis against Adivasis. They were successful initially and wanted to divide Hindus.”Pointing to a Hindu consolidation ahead of the 2026 assembly polls against attacks on “Hindu society, tradition, and culture”, Adhikari said the people of the state threw out the previous govt after enduring these attacks for a long time.“The nationalist forces united this time to ensure victory for the saffron flag… more than 30,000 Ganesh Pujas took place. In 2026, more than 1.5 crore people joined Ram Navami processions. We have to continue this tradition,” he said, calling for Hindu unity. He said govt would protect cows, ensure people could freely distribute the Gita, revive the practice of studying the Vedas and serve Tulsi Mata.Rs 1k cr for pilgrimage tourism circuit, says CMBengal will invest Rs 1,000 crore in the next two years to develop a “pilgrimage tourism circuit” in the state. “We will create a pilgrimage circuit in two years, and Rs 1,000 crore will be invested for that. We need your suggestions and cooperation. We have already started working towards making Gangasagar Mela an international fair,” he said.
