RSS functionary beaten to death over property dispute; 4 cops suspended
A 50-year-old RSS functionary Rameshwar Tiwari was killed following a violent assault in Bheekam Chhapra village under Lar police station limits in Deoria.

Lucknow: A 50-year-old RSS functionary was killed after being allegedly assaulted in Bhikam Chhapra village of Deoria over an old family property dispute, police said.The victim, Rameshwar Tiwari, was attacked during a clash on Oct 1 and succumbed to his injuries the following day. After his death, his wife, Amrita Devi, lodged an FIR against several named and unidentified persons.DIG, Gorakhpur Range, S Channappa, meanwhile, suspended four cops — SHO Rakesh Singh, sub-inspector Rammoorat Ram, and constables Chandrabhan Bharti and Pritam Yadav — in connection with the incident.He said four police teams had been formed to arrest the accused.The FIR names Sanjay Tiwari, Deepak Tiwari, Pranjal Tiwari, Abhineet Tiwari, Aditya Tiwari and Nikhil Tiwari, all residents of Bhikam Chhapra village.According to the complaint, the accused reached Tiwari’s house around 5 pm on Oct 1 armed with sticks, a hammer and an iron tool. Amrita alleged that the group attacked her husband over an old dispute, leaving him critically injured.She alleged that she was assaulted too when she tried to intervene.Tiwari was first taken to Lar CHC and later referred to Maharshi Devraha Baba Medical College in Deoria. He was declared dead on arrival at the medical college.Locals said the two sides had been embroiled in disputes for nearly a year. One such disagreement was reportedly related to irrigation of wheat fields. Though the matter was later settled, tensions between the families persisted.Locals also referred to a dispute over a stretch of land used as a passage, which had led to confrontations between the two sides in the past.On Thursday, road-pitching work was underway along the main road near Tiwari’s residence. Tiwari had reportedly got a speed breaker constructed to slow vehicular movement near his house. Members of the rival side objected to the structure, triggering an argument that allegedly escalated into violence.Police said there had been previous incidents linked to the dispute. Earlier complaints by Tiwari had led to police action, while a tractor driver associated with him was also allegedly beaten to death following a dispute with a local resident.
