Kolkata: A CPM meeting was allegedly vandalised by a group of BJP supporters at Birati in North Dum Dum on Friday evening, triggering protests by party workers who accused police of failing to prevent the incident.CPM workers blocked MB Road and staged a protest, alleging that a group of people vandalised the venue in front of police.According to local sources, the meeting was being held at Banik More in Birati around 6pm to demand the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and raise allegations of several unethical activities by the state govt.“Some BJP-backed miscreants arrived at the meeting and started vandalising the venue. They even climbed onto the stage and damaged it, forcing the meeting to be called off. Despite the vandalism taking place in front of police, they remained silent spectators,” a local CPM functionary alleged.Local BJP politicians denied the allegations. “No BJP supporter was involved in the incident. The allegations are completely false,” a BJP functionary said.
