Guwahati: Manas National Park will reopen on Oct 2, followed by Kaziranga on Oct 3, marking the start of Assam’s 2026-27 wildlife tourism season.Manas will reopen with a special programme at its second main entrance. The Unesco World Heritage Site will remain open until further orders under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and the Assam Wildlife (Protection) Rules, 1997.Visitors must account for weekly closures of individual ranges: Bhuyanpara on Thursdays, Bansbari on Tuesdays, Panbari on Fridays and Kuklung on Wednesdays.Kaziranga’s jeep safaris will resume in Central Range at Kohora and Western Range at Bagori, with other ranges reopening in phases, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division DFO Arun Vignesh said.Two safari slots will be available daily. The morning safari will run from 7.30 am to 10 am, with visitors required to exit by noon. The afternoon safari will operate from 1.30 pm to 3 pm, with tourists required to leave by 5 pm.Elephant safaris will remain suspended throughout Oct and resume from Nov 1.Forest and environment minister Jayanta Mallabaruah said the reopening would revive tourism-linked economic activity and create opportunities for communities and tourism workers.Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is scheduled to reopen on Oct 13. Kaziranga permits can be obtained through Assam Sewa Setu portal and the official booking system.
