‘Mission Clean Patiala’ records removal of 13.7 tonnes of  waste

Patiala: At least 13.7 tonnes of waste has been removed through 72 cleanliness, awareness and plantation activities in Patiala, marking the completion of two phases of ‘Mission Clean Patiala’.Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) chairperson Reena Gupta and Patiala municipal corporation commissioner Pooja Syal Grewal on Wednesday inaugurated a dashboard to track regular activities under the drive and launched a ‘Plastic-Free Lunch’ campaign.The ‘Mission Clean Patiala’, launched in April 2026 under Mission Clean Air Patiala, involves over 50 participating and supporting institutions. The campaign has planted 800 saplings and engaged 1,814 volunteers, including students, teachers, NGOs, officers and residents.Educational institutions, govt organisations, NGOs, and citizens have participated in cleaning public spaces and raising awareness through social media.Gupta said the campaign aimed to create responsibility towards roads and public spaces, with sustained community participation extending beyond individual cleanliness drives.Under the Plastic-Free Lunch initiative, schools and colleges will be encouraged to reduce plastic use in lunch boxes and other lunch-related materials. Institutions that successfully implement the concept will be recognised under the campaign.PPCB said participating institutions would continue road-cleanliness drives, with their performance reviewed quarterly.
