Silchar: An assistant manager of a tea estate in Assam’s Sribhumi district was arrested after a woman worker accused him of sexually assaulting her at his bungalow, police said on Wednesday.The incident took place on Tuesday at a tea estate in Ramkrishnanagar co-district. The accused is an assistant manager at the estate and is from Bihar’s Samastipur district.According to the complaint, the woman was asked to go to the assistant manager’s bungalow for cleaning and other work. She alleged that the accused tried to force himself on her and sexually assaulted her after she entered the bungalow.The woman raised an alarm, following which local residents and tea-garden workers reached the bungalow, rescued her and caught the accused before informing the police.Police later reached the estate and took the accused into custody.Additional SP (crime) Trinayan Bhuyan said the police received a complaint alleging that the assistant manager sexually assaulted the woman at his bungalow. “Following the complaint, we registered a case under the relevant sections of the law,” Bhuyan said.Police said the accused was arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him in judicial custody.The woman underwent a medical examination as part of the investigation. Police said investigators were examining her complaint, the medical findings and other evidence.The allegations led to tension at the tea estate, with workers and local residents gathering in the area. Further investigation is underway, police said.
