Gujarat High Court rebuke journalist Ravi Nair, his lawyers for not disclosing information on pending bail plea

Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court on Wednesday slammed journalist Ravi Nair and his advocates for not informing it about a bail application pending before a Gandhinagar sessions court while seeking an urgent hearing on a public holiday against the issuance of a non-bailable warrant.Nair, who has been sentenced to a one-year jail term in a defamation case filed by Adani Enterprises, was remanded to judicial custody by the sessions court on Sept 17 after he remained absent during a hearing on his appeal against conviction. As soon as he was sent to jail, his lawyers filed a bail application in the sessions court. They also rushed to HC and were given an urgent hearing. The lawyers did not inform HC about the pending bail application. This irked HC, which stated, “The conduct of the learned advocate for the petitioner gives an impression that the petitioner has attempted to adopt a ‘hide and seek’ approach and to pursue a ‘pick-and-choose’ method before this court.”HC disposed of Nair’s petition because he was granted bail by the sessions court on Sept 24.
