Kolkata: An executive engineer of the KMC buildings department was suspended on Monday for reportedly issuing a notice without “prior approval from the appropriate authority”. Days earlier, a sub-assistant engineer from KMC was suspended reportedly for not issuing a notice.The executive engineer had issued a notice to vacate a building on Canal South Road so that illegal constructions could be razed. The reason for this suspension was in sharp contrast to the other recent suspension notice, issued to a sub-assistant engineer, who was penalised for ‘not issuing’ a notice against the Taratala warehouse that collapsed, said an official.He said this executive engineer had the authority to issue the notice as the matter was heard by a special officer (building), and an order was issued to vacate the premises. “The executive engineer acted by the book… he was victimised,” said an executive engineer. “First, a young engineer was jailed. Now an executive engineer whose transparency can’t be doubted has been suspended,” said another executive engineer.
