Silchar: Assam governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday led a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Sankalp Padayatra’ in Diphu, urging collective action against drug abuse.Hundreds of students, NCC and NSS cadets, social organisation members, ex-servicemen, govt officials and residents joined the march from Diphu Town Hall to Karbi Anglong deputy commissioner’s office.Karbi Anglong is the seventh district visited by Acharya under the initiative, which seeks to raise awareness about drug abuse and mobilise communities against substance addiction.Addressing a gathering before the march, Acharya said combating drugs required sustained participation from families, educational institutions, community and religious organisations, civil society and young people.Linking the campaign to Centre’s Viksit Bharat@2047 vision, he said development required not only economic growth and infrastructure but also healthy, educated and responsible citizens. He urged young people to avoid drugs and focus on education, skill development, sports, innovation and nation-building.Referring to Karbi Anglong’s history and tribal traditions, Acharya paid tribute to freedom fighters Semsonsing Ingti and Nongjirang Lekthe.He flagged off the march and joined participants on the route. At its culmination, he paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Karbi Anglong DC Kriti Chachra administered an anti-drug pledge.Deputy Speaker Habbi Teron, council chairperson Raju Tisso, MLA Niso Terangpi, SSP Pushpraj Singh and principal secretary Dilip Terang were present.
