Gurgaon: Police commissioner Sibash Kabiraj has ordered a departmental inquiry (DE) against a station house officer (SHO) over an alleged delay in registering an FIR following a 28-year-old woman’s complaint against an SUV driver, which was reported by TOI last week. The DE against the Sector 56 SHO will examine whether there was negligence in the handling and registration of the complaint regarding a road rage on Golf Course Road that took place a month back. The FIR was registered a few days back.Khushboo Verma had alleged that the Scorpio driver hit her car and smashed its headlight with an iron rod following a spat on Aug 27. On Sept 22, the FIR was registered at Sector 56 police station only after repeated complaints and follow-ups by Khushboo and her mother, Pooja Verma, and intervention by senior police officers.Khushboo later provided police with footage captured by her car’s dashcam. Her mother also submitted another complaint on Sept 21, stating that despite the footage being handed over to police, no action had been taken and the investigating officer had stopped taking their calls. The family later approached ACP (Sadar) Dharambir Singh, after which the FIR was registered.CP Kabiraj told TOI, “We now have two special teams to trace the accused or those causing road rage incidents in the city. We have successfully nabbed such accused within the least possible time. I have opened a DE of the SHO for the alleged delay in registration of the FIR and am probing the allegations.”Police had earlier said the accused — identified as Swayam, a resident of Aya Nagar in Delhi —was admitted to a private hospital for dengue treatment and a team had been deployed at the hospital. Police said he would be arrested after his discharge. The accused has been booked under sections 125 (rash or negligent act endangering human life or the personal safety of others), 281 (rash driving) and 324(4) (mischief causing damage to property) of BNS.On Aug 27, around 10pm when Khushboo was travelling with her 51-year-old mother near AIT Chowk, the Scorpio allegedly hit her grey Maruti Swift from the left after both vehicles moved ahead from a traffic signal. Khushboo said she slowed down after the impact, following which the driver rolled down the window and abused her and her mother. She alleged that he then took out an iron or steel rod, smashed the headlight of her car and fled the spot.She immediately called the police control room, following which a PCR team reached the spot and directed her to Sector 56 police station. She submitted a complaint the same night and an investigating officer, Narender, was assigned to the matter. Khushboo alleged that despite repeated follow-ups, the FIR was not registered. She was initially told that the investigating officer was on leave for Raksha Bandhan and later that police were unable to trace the driver as the Scorpio had a temporary registration number.
