Gurgaon: Students and researchers in Haryana will now be able to take their innovative ideas from laboratories and institutions to the patent stage without worrying about registration costs, with the state govt introducing Haryana Patent Support, Commercialisation and Innovation Facility for 2026-27. Under the new policy, govt will reimburse 100% of the patent registration fee, subject to a maximum assistance of Rs 50,000.Education minister Mahipal Singh Dhanda said the initiative had been introduced in line with the state govt’s policy directions to strengthen research, innovation and entrepreneurship in educational institutions. The scheme will provide financial assistance to students, researchers, universities, colleges, technical institutions and other eligible institutions to help them secure intellectual property rights for new ideas and innovations.The minister said govt’s focus was not limited to academic studies and that young people should also be encouraged to develop new technologies, products and solutions. The initiative is aimed at creating an ecosystem in which innovative ideas emerging from educational institutions can be protected through patents and subsequently taken towards commercial use.Under the policy, research and innovation centres will be activated in institutions, while guidelines and directions have also been issued to ensure that eligible students and researchers can avail themselves of the support. Govt has also directed institutions to strengthen research and innovation activities and provide necessary assistance to innovators.The scheme is expected to benefit students and researchers who often have innovative ideas but face financial constraints while moving from the research stage to patent registration. Govt said assistance would help reduce this barrier and encourage more young researchers to seek patent protection for their work.The policy also focuses on taking patented technologies beyond registration and towards practical application and the market. According to govt, innovation should not remain confined to research laboratories or academic institutions. Researchers will be encouraged to develop their ideas into usable products and technologies and explore opportunities for commercialisation.Govt has also stressed the need for institutions to prepare a suitable environment for new research and technological solutions. The initiative will cover colleges, universities and other concerned institutions, with the objective of creating a stronger innovation ecosystem across the state.
