Chennai: Madras high court on Thursday disposed of a plea moved by Chennai Harbour TVK candidate Sinora Ashok alleging a death threat involving DMK minister P K Sekar Babu. The court closed the plea after city police said adequate security had already been provided to Ashok.Recording the submissions of the police, Justice M Nirmal Kumar closed the petition moved by Ashok. According to the petitioner, on April 23, the polling day for Tamil Nadu assembly election, Sekar Babu, along with his associates, attacked him. He also expressed apprehension that a similar attack might occur on the day of vote counting.He further stated that there is a threat to his life and alleged that, out of fear of defeat, plans are being made to attack him on counting day by the DMK minister. Though a complaint has been lodged with the Chennai police commissioner, only a single policeman has been provided for his security, he said.He wanted the court to direct city police to provide permanent armed security to his residence. The prosecution submitted that adequate security was already provided to the petitioner.
