Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh health authorities have issued a public health advisory amid a rise in acute febrile illness cases in the Itanagar Capital Region.The advisory, issued by ICR district medical officer Dr C Lowang Mallo, stresses early detection and public awareness amid a surge in fever cases.Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that causes acute febrile illness lasting two to seven days. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, skin rashes and retro-orbital pain.Residents have been advised to eliminate mosquito-breeding sites by clearing stagnant water, regularly cleaning water coolers and tanks and keeping storage containers covered. They should also wear full-sleeved clothing, install window screens and use mosquito nets and repellents.Authorities urged residents to dispose of old tyres, plastic containers and unused tubes, which can collect rainwater and become breeding sites.Dr Mallo cautioned against self-medication and advised patients not to take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin or ibuprofen, or steroids, without medical advice. People experiencing symptoms should seek prompt medical attention and stay adequately hydrated.Itanagar Municipal Corporation corporator Gora Lotak appealed to residents of Ward 11 to take preventive measures against dengue and malaria. He urged them to clear stagnant water from drains, bamboo stumps and discarded materials, and cooperate with civic teams in applying larvicides and bleaching powder where necessary.
