Gurgaon: Two persons were injured in an accident involving an SUV near Dwarka Expressway on Saturday night. A Thar allegedly swerved through traffic and made sudden lane changes before hitting a motorcycle, injuring the rider and pillion. The impact threw both of them onto the road, with the two being dragged for a few metres. The Thar driver continued to accelerate and fled the spot without stopping.The vehicle was impounded. “The vehicle is registered in the name of Shakuntala, a resident of Bhiwani,” an officer said. Police said Rajesh and Dinesh, who were travelling towards Dwarka, did not go to a hospital for treatment, adding that they escaped serious injuries as they were wearing helmets. A special police team was formed to trace the SUV. Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said, “The vehicle was located at a service station in Sector 93 and taken into possession. The identity of the driver has been established and he will be arrested. Police recorded the victims’ statements under Section 180 of BNSS.”Police also found that the vehicle had previously been challaned for dangerous driving and jumping a red light in Zirakpur. “The vehicle has a challan of Rs 5,000 from Aug in connection with dangerous driving and jumping a red light in Zirakpur,” the officer said. The incident occurred around 8.15pm and a video of the crash, recorded on a dashcam, later surfaced. Taking cognizance of the footage, a case was registered at Sector 10A police station. The officer said investigators had identified the SUV’s registration number as HR16AG5200.The dashcam footage showed the black SUV joining the main road in Sector 93 before repeatedly swerving from one side of the road to the other. At one point, the SUV moved towards the right, slowing down the vehicle from which the footage was recorded. The footage then showed a WagonR and another SUV travelling parallel to each other, with the motorcycle moving between the two vehicles. The Thar driver appeared to find a narrow gap between the vehicles, accelerated and swerved towards the left before hitting the motorcycle.The case was registered under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of BNS. Investigators are examining the footage and other details to establish the circumstances of the crash and trace the driver.The accident also comes days after a Maruti Ciaz car hit a woman bike rider on Golf Course Road. Police had registered an attempt to murder case after the complainant had alleged that she was hit following a verbal altercation. The Ciaz driver, as recorded in the dashcam of the bike, swerved and hit her and fled the scene. A fellow bike rider followed the driver as the driver had stopped at a traffic signal.
