Guwahati: As Assam continues to honour Bhupen Hazarika’s enduring cultural legacy, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed arrangements in New Delhi on Sunday for the Nov 29 grand finale of his birth centenary celebrations.Sarma inspected the venue at Bharat Mandapam and was briefed by senior officials about the arrangements. PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the event.An exhibition on Hazarika’s life, work and contribution to Assamese and Indian culture will be held at the venue. The programme will also showcase Assam’s cultural heritage and Hazarika’s place in India’s cultural landscape.“We are curating an unforgettable tribute, one truly befitting the legacy of Sudhakantha,” Sarma said in a post on ‘X’ after his visit.Additional chief secretary B Kalyan Chakravarthy, IPR commissioner and secretary Padmapani Bora, Assam Bhawan resident commissioner Kavitha Padmanabhan, MLA Taranga Gogoi and IPR director Manabendra Dev Ray were among those present.The centenary celebrations commemorate the life and legacy of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika, whose music crossed linguistic and geographical boundaries. “His compositions and songs reflected themes of humanity, social harmony, fraternity and national integration,” a govt release read.“The grand finale in the national capital will bring together eminent personalities, artists, cultural practitioners and admirers of Dr Hazarika from across the country for a fitting culmination of the centenary celebrations,” it added.
