Chennai: The space gallery at Periyar Science and Technology Centre in Kotturpuram will soon feature models of Mangalyaan and Chandrayaan missions, an atmospheric re-entry crew module and the latest PSLV rockets. The centre is planning to upgrade its science exhibits and make it more interactive, with approval from Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) to display scale models of these missions.“We are planning to upgrade most of the galleries at Periyar Science and Technology Centre. As part of the initiative, we requested Isro to provide us with scale models to exhibit India’s recent space achievements. Isro has agreed,” said K Shanmuga Sundaram, executive director of Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre.National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) is also planning to upgrade a 5,000sqft gallery with new displays. “The gallery will feature Arctic and Antarctic missions undertaken by NIOT teams,” Shanmuga Sundaram said. Further, the heart gallery will have several new features, including interactive displays. The gallery has 135 specimens of hearts, including that of a whale.The science centre approached companies to upgrade the exhibits, galleries and play areas under the CSR funds. Several pieces of equipment in the play area also are either broken or not working properly. The centre also approached donors to replace them with new equipment.
