Chennai: Greater Chennai Corporation’s 75-day anti-rabies vaccination drive has crossed the halfway mark, with more than one lakh stray dogs vaccinated in the city since its launch on Aug 11.The civic body had launched the campaign with a target of vaccinating two lakh stray dogs across the city. Along with anti-rabies vaccination, the dogs are being administered medication to control internal and external parasites. As of Sept 25, 1,00,378 stray dogs have been vaccinated. The campaign, which began with mobile teams in Thiruvottriyur, Manali and Tondiarpet, has since been extended across several zones.Ambattur has recorded the highest number of vaccinations so far, with 21,844 dogs, followed by Madhavaram (15,038), Tondiarpet (12,477), Tiruvottiyur (12,313), Anna Nagar (11,895), Royapuram (8,598) and Manali (7,200). The drive also covered 4,343 dogs in Alandur. Vaccination is underway in Kodambakkam, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar and Perungudi.
